Broken Glasses Blessing

Indeed, forty years [God] provided for [the Israelites] in the wilderness and they were not in want;

their clothes did not wear out, nor did their feet swell.

Nehemiah 9:21

The frame of my glasses broke the day before my husband and I were to leave home for a trip to Chattanooga. The occasion was the birth of our newest grandchild, Easton. I live in a small town, without many options for eyeglasses, so taped the frames together with – you guessed it – duct tape!

I walked around that way for a couple days and finally had an opportunity to go see about getting a new pair. I’ll add here that I bought these glasses in Savannah, at a different chain than the one I visited in Chattanooga. I walked into the store, showed my duct-taped glasses to the optician, and she said, “I think we have that frame here.”

Blessings!

In fact, they had the frame in the exact color I recently broke, and popped my lenses out of the old frames and into the new in a matter of minutes! God saved me at least $150 by providing the exact same frame I had! I was – and still am – ecstatic about this blessing.

Almost immediately it reminded me of the verse in Nehemiah quoted above (confession – I knew the content, but not the reference, and it took me a while to find it!). God is in the business of blessing His children, if we just let Him.

I told you last time about my commitment to pray for the blessing of God for 40 days straight – and see what God would do. The day after I wrote that post – before it was even published, the glasses were replaced.

Now, why do you suppose this was such a big deal? First, the inconvenience of needing a new pair of glasses at that time was a nuisance. Second, I didn’t have a current prescription so would need an eye exam to get new glasses – who has time for that when there’s a new grandbaby to spoil? Third, my husband and I are trying to cut back our spending as we’re in a season of transition as far as jobs go (any prayers appreciated).

It was a small thing, and not a thing I even prayed about. But – blessings! I prayed for God’s blessings on my life, and He blessed.

40 Days for Prayer for Blessings

If you haven’t hopped on the 40-day prayer for blessings bandwagon, why not start now. God has no deadlines for beginning, and a storehouse of blessings to bestow! Let me know in the comments if you’re joining me in praying for God’s blessings.

To read more about my 40-day commitment, see this post.

One more thing – I bought two books yesterday (I’m a bit of a book hoarder) for less than $5 – talk about blessings! See you next time, and be sure to let me know how your 40-day journey is going.
