Psalm 100

Psalm 100 Thanksgiving

Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth

Serve the LORD with gladness;

Come before Him with joyful singing

Know that the LORD Himself is God

It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;

We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving

And His courts with praise.

Give thanks to Him, bless His name,

For the LORD is good;

His lovingkindness is everlasting

And His faithfulness to all generations.

A psalm of thanksgiving and praise to the LORD for Who He is and all He has done. Wonderful encouragements for worship are found in this short psalm.

  • We are to praise the LORD with joyful shouting and singing.
  • We are to serve Him with gladness.
  • We are to acknowledge Him as the Creator and Sustainer of life.
  • We are to bless Him and His Holy Name.

And why do we do these things? Because He is “good,” and “His lovingkindness is everlasting.” Because the LORD’s faithfulness is never-ending.

What are some reasons we can worship and thank the LORD?

First, there are the facets of the LORD seen in this psalm: we praise Him for being the Creator and Sustainer, the Shepherd and Door to the sheepfold, the True God above all other so-called ‘gods.’

Next, we can praise Him for who He is: He is holy, gracious, unchanging, eternal, merciful, loving, and good – always good. How many more characteristics can you think of? Praise Him for all of these.

Finally, we can thank Him for how He interacts with us: He treats us as sheep, yes, but more than sheep, we are His children (for those who have confessed Jesus as LORD). Child of the Most High God – that is my title! And like a child, I can come to Him boldly, making all my needs known to the LORD, knowing He cares more than I can imagine. Anytime I am feeling down, all I need to do is think about how loved I am, and my mood instantly lifts.

To help you focus on thanksgiving to the LORD, during this month of Thanksgiving, I have created a Psalm 100 bookmark (they come in a set of 4) for you to download. Just click here, and you’ll be able to get them.
